Flute, Piano

Flutist Lisa Choi completed her Bachelor of Music at The Juilliard School, studying with Jeffrey Khaner, and earned a Master of Music from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music under Demarre McGill. Throughout her studies, she performed in various ensembles, including the Juilliard Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Opera, and ChamberFest.

Ms. Choi has been recognized in several prestigious competitions, being one of the six finalists in the 2019 New York Flute Club Competition and one of the eight finalists in the 2021 Philadelphia Society of Greater Philadelphia Competition. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013, winning Second Prize at the American Protégé International Concerto Competition with a performance of Carmen Fantasy for Flute. That same year, she debuted at the Kennedy Center after winning Third Prize at the Asian American Music Society competition, performing Loeillet’s Trio-sonate in F Major. In 2016, she returned to Carnegie Hall as First Prize winner of the Vivo International Music Competition.

Ms. Choi has participated in notable summer programs, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra Academy, and the National Orchestral Institute. She is currently a third-year Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate at the University of Maryland, studying under Sarah Frisof. As a Teaching Assistant, she teaches undergraduate and graduate-level flute technique classes and also instructs beginner piano and flute students outside of school. Recently she won the First Prize for the University of Maryland Concerto Competition in flute and she will be playing as a soloist with the UMD Symphony Orchestra this upcoming Fall 2025.

In addition to her work as a flutist and teacher, Ms. Choi has been teaching piano to students of all ages since her college years, gaining extensive experience across a wide range of skill levels. She also plays piano regularly at church services, further expanding her musical versatility.
